The difference between good and exceptional is the work ethic. Having an exceptional work ethic in the medical field is being able to do specific and detailed charting and able to help patients with a positive attitude and being able to think quickly and have quick reaction times. When having a good work ethic means you just complete charting but not going into much detail and quick-dry response but being able to help some patients but not all, and having a little slower of a reaction time to situations.
The course in high school I liked the most in school was Health Sciences through Oakland Schools Technological Campus (OSTC), it was a two-year program that helped me prepare to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). I enjoyed this course because it gave me an eye-opening experience on what nursing is and how much nurses do in a day. I was able to learn about different medical terms and how to help patients in a hospital and nursing home.
Every day I look forward to new adventures and events that’ll happen. I enjoy learning new things each day whether it be in my nursing class, the nursing home, or high school I always enjoy showing up and learning and talking with teachers, friends, and meeting new people, and being a part of swim and softball to become a better athlete and play with my very energetic dog.
A person that inspires me is my Nursing school teacher Mrs. Denstaedt. She’s helped me with my nursing career and inspired me to become an emergency room nurse she keeps me motivated for all the work I do and makes me want to become a better person not only for myself but for the patients I see or the people I work with, she looks at me as a leader and I’m still honored to be able to call her my teacher.
A major setback for me would be how I was scared of judgment, and I used to play it safe and not make bold moves. I have now come up of the shell of worry and judgment and have decided to be myself and be proud of the person I am. I’m learning how confidence is a huge part of nursing and being in education so I can back up the work I did and be confident and proud of the work I do.
The type of person I refuse to work with is someone who has no drive or passion for the career they want to pursue. And someone who lacks the dedication that goes along with assignments or completing a task. I finish tasks and assignments to make sure they reach the given expectations and I would be proud to call it my work, when working with someone who doesn’t care about what their work truly means can be frustrating seeing that they won’t put their best foot forward and are ok with just being good and not exceptional.
I do have some experience in leadership roles including in sports and with the school. For example, at South Lyon East I was a Link Crew leader for my Junior and Senior year. It focused o helping the underclassmen have a warm welcome and a familiar face in the school. I would walk around with the underclassmen and show them to their different classrooms, and answer any questions or concerns they had for school. I think being a leader and having leadership skills are important for any career and I try to use those skills effectively every day.
I enjoy working in quick thinking situations that's why I plan on becoming a trauma nurse, there is so much quick thinking that goes into everything they do and I love the thrill of helping people. I also like working through things I like to make lists of what I need to do and what is the easiest to complete and then the more difficult thing to complete, staying organized is something that keeps my thoughts organized and my daily schedule organized.
Happiness. When I was working at the nursing home, I met one of my favorite residents and she told me she was sad and lonely and proceeded to tell me she missed her husband. I asked her where he was, and she said he was on the other floor in the hospital, but she is bedridden and can’t up while he has weak legs and needs assistants to get places. I told her I’d find a way to get her to see her husband. I was able to talk with some of the other workers and we were able to get a wheelchair and wheeled him to see his wife. I have never seen two people so overjoyed and happy to see each other they both thanked me, and I left them alone to see each other due to the last time they saw each other was a month ago. I left knowing they were happy and seeing their smiling faces showed me how much I truly want to be a nurse.
